Poutine week MOntreal 2013
|
FIlter by Date |

So the week has officially started. I am salivating just looking at the restaurant list and wondering if I should begin with something exotic such as the General Toa poutine from La bêtise or opt for a classic but solid poutine from Montreal Poutine, that I keep hearing about.
And then I’m reminded that I’m going to Turks and Caicos in two weeks. This means that I will have to bare my pasty winter pale skin in a bikini. Since I’m already at the limit of my comfortable winter weight (that I judge by praying before trying out my summer shorts because I don’t believe in scales) and that I would ideally like to feel more like a beach bunny than a beached whale, there is little margin for weight gain.
What’s a girl to do? Say goodbye to my visions of duck confit, foie gras, shredded lamb shank, triple cooked fries, gravy, red wine sauce, cheese curds and cheese galore? Never.

Check tes sources!

Ladies and gents, its happening soon…the week where we wish we weren’t so drawn to this dish that is for some ‘addictive’; the MTL Poutine Week presented by Food Week Montreal!
We are trying to find the best poutine in town which is always a debate because there are so many different places that serve it and also, it is a plate that you can go crazy and add all sorts of ingredients to it. Sometimes the classic version turns out to be the best!

Some of the world’s most awesomest things often have something dedicated or erected in their honour (heh, heh, y’know what I’m sayin’?); example: Kwanzaa, Boxing day, Sharks and most recently BURGERS. Off the heels of this past summer’s wildly successful Montreal’s “Burger Week”, the evil geniuses behind that endeavour are coming out with the hottest thing to hit February since the vomit-inducing temperature that generates in your down-filled winter coat as it creates some greenhouse effect while you sweat your ass off in a crowded metro car… Montreal’s first and inaugural Poutine Week!

Part of the reason why I created this blog and why I truly enjoy interacting with my readers is to inform them of great places to eat. Food is engrained in our city and makes our joie de vivre distinct. As much as I like dining out at some of the great restaurants in Montreal, sometimes there’s nothing more than I want than a good poutine. Whether it’s to warm up after a game of shinny in the winter, at 4:00 am on the weekend, or anytime really. I’ve learned after eating many varieties, poutine is always a good idea.

Poutine : a hot, greasy mess that is just delicious. That’s my definition.
Now, Recipes can vary from joint to joint and trying all the different styles is especially exciting.

For those of you that are still ambiguous to poutine and what it is, we will break it down to you in simple terms: it is a Quebec dish, made with French fries, topped with brown gravy and curd cheese. That is what poutine started as and what it continues to be famous for.

A different array of restaurants throughout the city will be making our Quebec loved and proud, delicious dish! From authentic Italian pizza houses, to signature poutine places - a very different and unique poutine will be out there for you.

“Are you kidding?” questions Na’eem Adam (aka Le Méchant Mangeur) when I asked what inspired him and the Food Week Montreal Inc. group to organize the very first Poutine Week Montreal.
That’s basically the polite equivalent of “Bitch, please.”
Right. Sorry.
Poutine.
Fries. Cheese. Gravy. The holy trinity that is often considered Montreal’s most recognized dish.
